Early Spring in the Ooku

As the main event of the ‘Movie Village Red and Gold Lunar New Year Festival,’ we will hold a special live entertainment show, ‘Ōoku no Hatsuharu’ (Early Spring in the Ooku), for six days only to celebrate the Lunar New Year.

The ‘Hatsuuma’ festival, a celebration marking the arrival of early spring and praying for a bountiful harvest, was also an event observed in the Ōoku of the Edo Castle Honmaru Palace.
On the day of Hatsuuma in the Ōoku, the senior attendants (O-Toshiyori) would visit the Inari Shrine within the castle grounds on behalf of the shogun’s wife (Midai-dokoro). Following this, the female attendants of the Ōoku would perform various arts before the Midai-dokoro.
